Instructions for Use of the Science Crosswalk
The intent of this document is to assist district science supervisors, curriculum planners, and teachers in making the transition between the previous Sunshine State Science Standards and the recently adopted Next Generation Sunshine State Science Standards. This crosswalk addresses only those benchmarks from the previous standards that are annually assessed (AA) or content sampled (CS) on the science FCAT through 2010. With that in mind, the crosswalk is an attempt to identify benchmarks from the Next Generation standards that correlate with the AA and CS benchmarks, and the grade levels at which these correlating benchmarks appear. Instances where the Next Generation standards either no longer address previous AA or CS benchmarks, or treat them at a different grade level, are clearly identified in this document.
The codes for the FCAT assessment items from the previous standards are as follows:
AA Annually Assessed
CS Content Sampled
MC Multiple Choice
SR Short Response
ER Extended Response
GR Gridded Response
The correlation ratings for the Next Generation standards that match the previous standards are:
W Weak
M Moderate
S Strong
